In today’s fast-paced world, Generation Z faces immense pressure — from academic expectations and economic challenges to an ever-changing, competitive job market. For many students, these stresses can lead to anxiety, burnout, and declining mental health. Recognising this growing concern, the Alliance Development Trust (ADT) stepped forward to support the next generation.
The Children’s Sector of ADT launched the Mental Well-being for Students Series – 2024, with its first session held on 19th November 2024 at St. Lucia’s College, Kotahena. This session marked the beginning of a monthly initiative designed to empower O-Level and A-Level students with practical tools to manage stress, prioritise self-care, and plan confidently for their futures.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Marcelline, a trained counsellor, who guided students through open discussions on mental health and offered personalised advice to help them navigate their challenges. The programme also explored issues unique to Generation Z, shedding light on how modern pressures affect emotional resilience and psychological well-being.
Students responded with enthusiasm—sharing their thoughts, asking questions, and expressing gratitude for the safe and supportive space created through this initiative. Together, they explored practical strategies for maintaining mental wellness amidst life’s demands.
To complement the sessions, the programme introduced short segments on career guidance and stress management, highlighting the importance of time management, self-awareness, and life planning as key components of mental health.
Moving forward, the Mental Well-being for Students Series will continue to expand, reaching more schools across Sri Lanka. Each session will build upon the last—integrating interactive modules on life skills, emotional resilience, and holistic development, ensuring that every student learns not only to succeed, but to thrive.
