Alliance Development Trust (ADT) organized the National Interfaith Leprosy Symposium on February 7, 2025, at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, gathering more than 150 people, including partners from the Inter Religious Peace Foundation, the Sasakawa Health Foundation, and individuals affected by Leprosy from ADT's operational areas. The symposium aimed to encourage interfaith leaders to advocate for those affected by Leprosy.
ADT's Health Sector initiatives include awareness programs to educate the public and reduce stigma, house-to-house surveys and screenings to identify cases and ensure early treatment, self-care groups for emotional and social support, and training for external stakeholders to promote inclusivity.
The symposium successfully increased awareness of leprosy and strengthened community support. Interactive discussions empowered those affected by leprosy to voice their challenges and work collaboratively toward solutions. The involvement of religious leaders highlighted their crucial role in reducing stigma and providing care.
The post programme survey indicated that the participants were inspired to educate their communities and advocate for the rights of individuals affected by leprosy, paving the way for future awareness initiatives.
