 APRIL TO MAY 2005 

The relief and rehabilitation programmes carried out by the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) and the Alliance Development (ADT) the relief commission of the Alliance, continues five months after the tsunami.

BOAT PROJECT IN POINT PEDRO
By the end of May, ADT would complete the manufacture of 40 boats.

CHILDREN’S PROJECTS
Children’s Programme

An Avurudhu (Sinhala and Tamil) New Year programme was held for 500 children affected by the tsunami who are presently residing in temporary shelters in Galle. This programme was held on the 23rd of April at the Habaraduwaatthe D.V.S. De Silva Kanishta School, Galle. The programme comprised of many fun-filled activities for the children and they were also given gifts at the end of the programme. The programme was initiated to up lift the spirits of those who have been living in temporary shelter communities. The Avurudhu programme received an enthusiastic reception from all who were present, both young and old.

Children’s Clubs
An orientation programme for potential leaders of
‘Change Makers’ Clubs was held on 23 April 2005 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Galle. 25 people participated in this programme.
 

FOSTER PARENT SCHEME
Children affected by the tsunami are being adopted under the Tsunami Foster Parents Scheme. 9 children have been identified during the period in review and are receiving assistance under this project.

RE-ENTRY PACKS
486 re-entry packs had been distributed during the period under review. The YTD figure is 18,955.  

LIVELIHOOD PROJECTS
Livelihood projects have been launched to assist those affected by the disaster. Projects such as providing fishing equipment to fish vendors, sewing machines for those involved in dress-making, brick making machines, utensils for carpentry etc. ADT has assisted according to individuals’ professions - 45 families have been aided through livelihood projects in Jaffna, Matara -8, Hambantota -33, Kalutara - 18, and Galle -1. Seed money of $ 200-300 has also been provided to those who wished to initiate small scale business.
