Mobile Medical Clinic for Residents of Siripala Pinto Mawatha - Thotalanga

20 April 2010

Thotalaga is home to many shanty dwellers. Poverty is not the only issue that people face here. Lack of clean water, proper sanitation, inadequate garbage disposal methods etc., are constant issues faced by these people. This gives rise to many medical needs. Therefore on the 20th of April 2010, the Community Development Education Sector of ADT conducted a Mobile Medical Clinic for the residents living on Siripala Pinto Mawatha, Thotalaga. This programme was done in partnership with the New Life Mobile Medical Clinic and the House of Prayer Church. The local community police provided security and assistance for this programme, which added to the success of this programme.

140 persons received treatment at this medical clinic and most of them were found to have communal diseases, heart conditions and a high rate of diabetes. These persons were referred to the volunteer Doctor and Nurses who were present to examine the sick and minister treatment. Medicines such as skin ointments, vitamins and syrups were provided for the sick. While the medical clinic was being held, ADT had the opportunity to make room to conduct an awareness programme for those present. The medical officer spoke on a very common health issue, gastritis.

Three more similar medical clinics have been planned for this year. Through this programme ADT hopes to reach out to poor communities and draw them to healthy lives and lifestyles.
