Emergency relief for flood victims

Laila, the cyclonic storm has now claimed 26 lives and more than 14,500 people have been forced to leave their houses. 500,000 people have been effected these torrential rains. More than 20 schools in the western province have been closed due to the floods.

Worst hit districts are Colombo, Gampaha and Galle. In Colombo alone more than 140,000 have been affected while more than 4,500 people are currently receding in temporary camps. In Gampaha 190,000 people have been affected and more than 170 houses were fully and partially. More than 9,000 have been forced into temporary shelters.

The disaster management centre has issues an alert to people living  in the Kalu Ganga and Gin Gaga basins have been asked top evacuate immediately due to the rising water levels.

The Alliance Development Trust was able to raise funds to feed 2300 people, out of which 800 were children. Food packs and biscuits were distributed on the 22nd and the 23rd of May 2010. Listed below are the details of the distribution.
