Emergency Flood Relief in Nawalapitiya

29 May 2009

Heavy monsoon rains caused floods, landslides & much destruction in Dekinda, Bawwagama, Gonthota, Labuwelkotuwa villages in Nawalapitiya, leaving more than 100 families displaced, during the last week of May. The main roads were submerged due to the overflowing of the rivers which hindered transportation thus suspending bus operations in most affected areas.

Since essential dry food rations were a major concern, ADT distributed packs of dry rations to 40 displaced families on 29th of May 2009, with the coordination of AGA office, Nawalapitiya Pastor’s fellowship & ECDP team. The food items helped these families survive until they were able to get back to their homes & resume normal lives.
