Emergency relief for families affected by floods and earthslips During the last few months torrential rains lashed across most of the Eastern, Northern, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka, leaving thousands of families without shelter and basic needs. Due to the danger of landslides villagers were asked to evacuate their homes. Most of who returned were dismayed to find their homes buried under layers of mud. These people were given temporary shelter under makeshift tents, religious institutions and schools. Alliance Development Trust, through its Relief and Development Sector organized relief packs containing dry rations to be distributed in Badulla, Welimada in the Uva province, Wallapane in the Central province and Vavunia in the Northern province.
Badulla
On 20th March, NCEASL assisted by UPC Church Badulla, the Grama Niladharis of Wewassa & Thelbedde, provided dry ration packs to 200 families affected by floods and earth slips in the Badulla region. Subsequently, the Divisional Secretary of Badulla sent a letter thanking NCEASL for providing timely relief for 200 families.

Each beneficiary family received a family pack with the following contents.
Welimada & Walapane
Nuwara Eliya, known by many as “the Little England” because of its cool climate and misty glens, which are similar to the British climate is one out of the three districts which is found in the Central Province. At least 60 families were evacuated from Walapane, which situated in this district, following landslide threats. The Disaster Management Centre stated that two acres of land and two houses had been damaged in the area. NCEASL with the assistance of AOG church in Walapane, Bethel Gospel Ministry of Bandarawela, Grama Niladari of Dayarabawatte Welimada & Divisional Secretary Walapane provided dry ration packets for 75 affected families. The Divisional Secretary of the Walapane thanked NCEASL by letter for providing timely relief for these families.
