Since the closure of the A9 road on 11 August 2006, which connects Colombo to Jaffna, people have been affected physically and psychologically. There is a lack of medicines, essential goods, fuel, stationery and are suffering because of this. Nonetheless, the Change Makers Clubs are continuing the psychosocial programmes, sports activities, evening school, cultural events and preschool for children affected by the Tsunami and the ethnic conflict.

A Survey was carried out among the Change Makers Clubs in Jaffna and the Children decided that they wanted stationery. Alliance Development Trust responded to their request and also considered their needs, as such, dry rations of milk powder and biscuits were also included in the 1200 stationery packs.
