Clean, Safe water – is essential for life! It is anyone’s right to have access to safe water and it is everyone’s responsibility not to waste safe water. For those vulnerable people trapped in a cycle of poverty and hopelessness, improved access to safe water can become the key first step in the journey towards their freedom from poverty & living with dignity. Improving the access of poor people to safe water has the potential to make a major contribution towards poverty eradication. This is also enshrined in the millennium development goals (MDG).
With these very convictions, Alliance Development Trust became increasingly involved in the water and sanitation related relief efforts as part of its relief program for the December 2004 tsunami victims. Now, with relief efforts behind us, we are continuing on in this sector with our projects focused on education, capacity-building, and long-term development.
Currently a variety of water & sanitation related projects and hygiene educational projects according to the needs of individual communities are being implemented by ADT. We use the available local resources, and these projects currently are implemented in nine regions (Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Galle, Mannar, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura and Vavuniya).
While water related issues of Sri Lanka are widespread, they are not insurmountable. If we work together, we can bring a lasting change that will influence the future generations. Please join us in the quest for Safe Water and conservation of safe water. |
