Toilets handed over in Manmunai South West, Batticaloa January 2010 Click on the Pictures to Zoom 20 Toilets were handed over to people in Manmunai South East, Battilocaloa on the January of 2010.
Success Stories:- Kanagamma My name is Kanagamma and I live in Arasaradi theevu, a rural hamlet in Batticaloa. I have been married for 30 years and my husband is dead. I have 3 daughters and a son. In 2005 my son was forcibly taken by Tamil Tigers and in 2007 he was found dead. Now I live with my 3 daughters and earn a living by manually pounding and husking grain. This enables me to send two of my daughters to school. My eldest daughter is married and her husband is working as a daily labourer.
My name is Krishnapillai. I have been married for 25 years. I have 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter. My eldest son will sit for the GCE Ordinary Level examination this year, my daughter is in grade 10 and my youngest son is in grade 2. I work as a daily labourer in my village. The money I earn is hardly enough for our family. I live in a small hut; during rainy days the roof would leak and water would come into the house. I had three choices to make with the money I earned. Either to build a toilet, to renovate my hut or to spend it on my children’s education.
My name is Puveneswaran Kala. My husband Puveneswaran is a labourer. We have a four year old daughter. We live in a temporary house with a well. However, we don’t have a proper toilet. My 50 year old mother lives with me. Even during her times there had been no proper lavatory system. We have brought these problems to the notice of the government and non-governmental organizations; but no one responded to our basic needs.
