K Nallamma
K Nallamma, is a resident of Kumurumoolai, Koralaipattu North of Batticaloa. She too is a victim of war. “I lost my house because of the war and all our household belongings were robbed” said Nallamma. “We lived as refugees for two month in Valaichchenai and then we had to move to Sithandi where we faced a lot of difficulties. We didn’t even have the basic things one needs to survive. After staying in Sithandi we were relocated to Kumurumoolai”. Nallamma is a widow. She lost her husband a few years ago and since then life has been a struggle for her. Her children are married and live far away from where she now lives. Nallamma lives with her granddaughter and grandson whom she now looks after. As life continued to be a struggle ADT approached Nallamma and offered her a microfinance loan from which she was able to purchase a cow and a calf. “I am able to get more than 2 liters of milk a day. Some of the milk I sell and the rest we use for our consumption” shares Nallamma. “I didn’t have a daily income before this but now I am able to earn a daily income. My home is surrounded by grass and I have a good water supply which helps me feed my cow and its calf. My grandson helps me with my work. I am so grateful to ADT” said Nallmma thankfully. |
