Selva Nayagam
Selva Nayagam aged 45 is a mother of 04 children. Her husband was doing masonry work and they also owned a poultry farm. “We led a happy family life until the tsunami came and destroyed our lives. It took everything that we had leaving us only the clothes we were wearing” said Selva. Selva and her family took refuge at the Methodist Church where they worshiped and the Government provided them with food to survive till they went to live with her married daughter. The daughter and her husband were very kind and kept the whole family with them. Although they had a house to stay in it was very difficult because they didn’t have a proper income. “My husband started doing a painting job and was getting Rs.150/= per day. However this was not enough to send our children to school and also to see to our other needs. I went to the Church asking for help and they told me about ADT. We received a grant of Rs.20, 000/= from ADT. We started to make cement pots, bricks etc and sell them. Now I earn a profit of Rs.300/= - Rs.400/= for a day and now we can manage to live a fairly good life and also send my 2 younger children to school. My 3rd son finished his education and now he’s earning too” said Selva. “We were totally helpless and didn’t know what to do” continued Selva. “Then ADT came and changed our whole lives. My family and I are eternally grateful for what ADT have done for us” she added. |
