Raja Kanapathy of Kallavanchikuda is 76 years old. A married man with 6 children. He is the sole provider for the whole family and his main income was from the little boutique he had in front of his house where he was earning about Rs.150/= per day. But Raja Kanapathy’s life was turned upside down within minutes as the tidal waves took everything away from him. His house and Boutique was totally washed out. He lost his 2 grandchildren that day. Raja himself was taken twenty feet high and he landed on a tree. He and his family were taken to a refugee camp and lived there for about 8 months. “I couldn’t be on employment as I was sick recovering after the shock from Tsunami. My 42 year old daughter was stricken with a heart ailment for which she had to undergo 2 operations and still it cannot be cured and I have to look after her”. During this time ADT came and helped us giving Rs.10, 000/= and I started to put up my boutique again in my daughters premises, Thanks to ADT now I earn about Rs.200/= per day which is barely sufficient to survive upon as I have to look after my sick Daughter. But my profits have increased. I was able to give 5 children in marriage from what I have earned. All thanks should go to ADT if not for them we would have been in great trouble and would have died out of depression, now I take this opportunity to give out my heartfelt gratitude to ADT for all the help they have given us and I hope that they will help me more as I have to look after my sick daughter.
