Anthony Sri Kanthan
Anthony Sri Kanthan aged 35 is a resident of Navalkuda. Illayathambi owns a miscellaneous good store in the Batticaloa market out of which he earns his living. Being the eldest in the family, Anthony provides for his parents and 4 brothers and he is the only bread winner for the whole family. On 26th of December 2004 this family was counted among the thousands of others who became victims of the disastrous waves that brought much anguish on many lives. Anthony lost his ancestral home and also lost all his goods, furniture and clothing. Seeking shelter at the Methodist church and they lived on the rations which were supplied by the Government. “I couldn’t start my old business in the market as I didn’t have any money to buy new goods to be sold” said Anthony. He was totally frustrated and depressed as he could see his own family struggling to live their lives, yet could do nothing to ease their pain. “I got to know ADT through our church and was very happy to know that they help people like us” said Anthony. This family was given a loan of Rs. 25, 000/= from which Anthony was able to buy goods and develop his business in order to feed his family. He built a small house from the profit he earns and now continues to earn a profit of Rs.500/= for a day from which he can look after his family. Now we are a very happy family. Adding to their happiness Anthony got married recently and now he’s happily married for 8 months. “All this would not have been ever possible if not for ADT I thank them so much for what they have done. In conclusion Anthony said “May God Bless ADT always and my family is eternally grateful to ADT for making my family a happy and bringing our expectations back again to live our lives”. |
