Somalatha’s life story is very sad. Her husband died in an accident, her son was born disabled and her daughter’s husband abandoned her and her child. Somalatha lives with her two children. Her daughter works as a labourer but her income is insufficient to sustain the whole family. With a loan given by ADT Somalatha started a soap business. She buys soap in bulk at wholesale price from Colombo and sells it to her villagers with a small mark up. She contributes approximately LKR 4000 – 6000 towards her family’s expenses. She is thankful to ADT for the livelihood support they offered her.
