Hemalatha

Hemalatha is visually impaired by birth. As a divorcee and a single parent she brought up her three sons. All her sons are now married and she lives with one of them. As the sole bread winner in the family, Hemalatha’s son’s earnings are hardly sufficient to cover their monthly expenses. Even though Hemalatha was interested in seeking a livelihood she had no financial support to get it started. ADT gave her a loan to start a ready made garment business. She bought clothes in bulk at cheap prices and sold them from her home to nearby neighbours and villagers. This business venture helps her earn LKR 4000 per month with which she contributes to her son’s family expenses.
