Gunawathy

Gunawathy a resident from Batticaloa had leprosy for the past 23 years. As she had neglected herself and not taken the treatment as advised the infection spread. From Batticaloa she was then transferred to the Hendala leprosy hospital. Now her only child who lives in Batticaloa does not visit her. ADT encouraged her to hand knit products and gave her a loan to get the material she needed. She sells her products within the hospital premises and her doctor helps her to get outside orders as well. Her monthly income is LKR 4000 per month with which she manages her basic needs.
