Leprosy - Success Stories   Winson Silva is the first patient admitted to the Leprosy hospital 48 years ago. Although he is married and has a son & a daughter, the family has disowned & deserted him.... Waiman, a father of 3 children, contracted Leprosy 8 years ago. Even though his children have disowned him, his wife visits him & is willing to take care of him... Vithana hails from the southern province of Galle. She lost her right hand in an unfortunate accident... Suranga, a father of three, was a leprosy patient who is now totally healed. Although he works for the Galle Urban Council due to growing family needs he started a small business which he and his wife does from their home... Somapala is visually impaired from birth. He lives with his son & his family. His son finds it very difficult to support his family & Somapala with his meager earnings.... Somalatha’s life story is very sad. Her husband died in an accident, her son was born disabled and her daughter’s husband abandoned her and her child. Somalatha lives with her two children... Sivaperumal is a worker at the Leprosy hospital and has been working for over 8 years. He is married and has two children attending school... Sirisena hasbeen employed as a staff worker at the Leprosy hospital for more than four years. He is the father of four children who are still schooling... Semapala is married & his son & daughter are both employed. Five years ago he contracted leprosy and was hospitalized... Seetha was just 5 years old when she got leprosy. She hardly recalls her childhood and does not know how she ended up at the hospital... Premadasa contracted leprosy over 30 years ago. He is a widower with four children, but they do not visit him... Peter and his wife both contracted leprosy & were hospitalized for treatment. They are sad as their three children do not visit them... Somawathy is visually impaired by birth. As her husband ids dead she lives with her only daughter & her family... Misthin is a widow with two children who are still schooling. She works at the leprosy hospital as a labourer... Mallika is a widow and a mother of 4 children. Her children are all married and she lives with one of her daughters... Letchuman is confined to a wheel chair as he lost both his legs due to a train accident. During this time he also contacted leprosy... Leelawathi was orphaned at a very young age. When she contracted leprosy her relatives admitted her to the leprosy hospital in 1970... Kamalawathi is visually impaired by birth and is a widow with 4 children. She lives with her daughter and son in-law who are both employed... Indrani became disabled due to an unfortunate accident. Her husband is a mason but his income is hardly sufficient to educate their two children as well as provide for the family’s needs... Hemalatha is visually impaired by birth. As a divorcee and a single parent she brought up her three sons... Heen Banda is a resident of Kurunegala. A father of three, he suddenly contacted leprosy and was admitted to the leprosy hospital... Sirisena although disabled by birth, is the sole bread winner in his family and even looks after his old mother... Dudley, a father of ten children has been living in the leprosy hospital for the past 30 years... Dammika has been working in the hospital for more than 4 years. She is married and her husband earns a meager wage as a daily labourer.... Damith was born with a disability in his feet. At 34 years he is still unmarried and is the sole bread winner for 4 family members including his parents... Biso Menike is visually impaired by birth and a widow with two children. Her 28 year old son is also disabled... Bala Menike is a widow and is visually impaired by birth. She has three children and she lives with her daughter and her family..... Gunawathy a resident from Batticaloa had leprosy for the past 23 years. As she had neglected herself and not taken the treatment as advised the infection spread... Gayanthi is a very courageous young woman. Still unmarried, she lives with an aged parent and her brother who is yet schooling... Damayanthi lives with her husband, two children & her in-laws, both of whom are visually impaired. Damayanthi and her husband look after them......... Ananda Bandara, a resident of Kollonnawa is a father of 3 children. A carpenter by profession, he lived a very happy............. Ajantha, a resident from Hendala is unmarried and lived with her 2 sisters before she got infected with leprosy...............
