SME Exhibition at BMICH

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and Friendrich Naumann Stiftung (FNSt), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industrial Development launched their third SME Machinery Exhibition on 15th May 2008 at the Sirimavo Bandaranayke Exhibition Centre which continued till the 18th of May 2008.

The Exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Kumara Welgama; Minister of Industrial Development and the guest of honour was Mr. Nawaz Rajabdeen, President, FCCISL. Minister Welgama in his speech said that the government is very keen to develop the rural sector industries and urged the organizers of the SME Machinery Exhibition not to limit it to Colombo but also to organize such exhibitions in provinces for the benefit of the up and coming industrialists in rural areas. He continued to say that the economy which was centered in and around Colombo has now expanded to other regions and they would do their best to transform the economic vision of rural industrial development into a reality.

Alliance Development Trust played a major role by exhibiting all handicrafts made by the Tsunami and War effected persons. This helped to create a strong link between the communities, study bonds with the organizers, create a strong market for their products as well as exchange the value of their products.

Mrs. R De Silva a visitor who admired our products suggested that these products should be displayed at outlets in Colombo where there is more marketing scope for handicraft products.

One of the main objectives of being a part of this trade fair was to create a strong niche to market these products. Thereby ADT will be able to uplift the vulnerable persons and families through a sustainable livelihood.

ADT found this exhibition a great success as it drew much attention and support for those on a journey of hope to rebuild their lives.
