HIV & AIDS awareness programme in Kandy & Nuwaraeliya
23 -24 April 2009
HIV & AIDS has now become one of the leading epidemics in the world. World statistics reveal that over 33 million have died from this deadly disease. It is our duty to protect the youngsters in this country by creating awareness on HIV & AIDS, as they tend to be exposed to vulnerable behaviors. A “brochure distributing campaign” was carried out by the “Project Positive team” of the Alliance Development Trust (ADT) in the vicinity of Peradeniya gardens, and the Haggala gardens on the 23rd and 24th of April 2009.
Over 600 brochures were distributed amongst the people who visited the vicinity. The brochures stated “Keep the promise, Stop AIDS”. The brochures were distributed in Sinhala and Tamil and it contained information on HIV/AIDS, the impact it has on society, the difference between HIV and AIDS, how the virus spreads and how to avoid it.
Interest ran high amongst the people to get to know what HIV is all about. ADT staff made sure that all questions would be answered. This campaign made a great impact amongst the people in the hill capital and more awareness campaigns and seminars are being planned to conduct in the hill capital.
