HIV & AIDS seminar at the Youth Training Centre – Gampola

22 April 2009

With the rapid increase in HIV/AIDS over Sri Lanka especially amongst the youth, it is our duty to educate them and to bring them the knowledge they need about this deadly disease to save our own fellow brothers and sisters from falling into HIV/AIDS.

Project Positive team put their hands up once again in organising yet another “project Positive” Seminar on the 22nd of April 2009’, for the students of the Youth Training Centre in Gampola. A total participation of above 120 students attended this seminar.

The main purpose behind this seminar was to give the participants a clear understanding of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, The primary methods of prevention, and also to provide a better education on how it spreads, and to provide the knowledge on realities and myths.

The seminar was conducted by the staff members of ADT and it was well applied by having skits and giving examples so that everyone could understand. A student mentioned that “We have attended a seminar which is worthwhile. We have learned what HIV & AIDS is about. Conducting these seminars amongst the youth is timely appropriate as now a days youth in our country tend to be vulnerable to alcohol, drugs and sexual activities. Now we are aware of the dangers of getting infected we as youth of this country can educate our friends and relatives about this dangerous epidemic. We want to thank ADT for coming and conducting this seminar and educating us on a subject which we never knew”

Soon after the sessions a time was set apart for questions and the students came up with their doubts and concerns on this subject and all questions and concerns were answered appropriately. Brochures and handouts were handed over to all participants it contained valuable information on HIV & AIDS.

Now we are aware of the dangers of getting infected. We as youth of this country can educate our friends and relatives about this dangerous epidemic. We want to thank ADT for coming and conducting this seminar and educating us on a subject which we never knew.
