Walk and United Service on World AIDS Day.

The objective of conducting this programme was to  create  awareness about the HIV/AIDS among the  Christian Youth and Sunday School Children.

According to present world statistics HIV/AIDS is spreading at epidemic proportions. Currently many Government and Non-government organizations are operating on awareness campaigns order to minimize the number of HIV infections.  Yet there are too many people who are still not aware about this deadly disease.

The 1st of December has been set aside to commemorate ‘World Aids Day’.  On this day NCEASL together with the Salvation Army organized a ‘Walk’ followed by a ‘United Service’ in Colombo. Children, youth and adults from several Churches in around Colombo such as Wattala, Mattakuliya ,Orugodawatta, even as far as Kegalle and Kandy participated in these activities. Children from the Thotalaga Change Makers Club in Colombo also participated this day. Each of them contributed in the days events as follows;

 •             Participated  in the walk.

•             Prepared HIV/AIDS Awareness banners.

•             Presented dramas about the challenges faced by people who are living with
               HIV/AIDS. [PLWHIV]

•            Presenting special songs about love and kindness that we as Christians ought to
  show all our brothers and sisters who are living with HIV/AIDS.

•             Shared of testimonies of those PLWHIV

•             Time of Prayer for all PLWHIV

During the walk the participants distributed over 4000 HIV/AIDS awareness brochures among the people. Compared to previous years, this year’s 1st of December 2007 programme was better attended which was very encouraging for us indeed. As more people are giving of their time to make known to others about this incurable decease, we are confident that in Sri Lanka we can combat the spread of this deadly disease
