A stranger lands in Sri Lanka. He mingles with the
youth of the island and becomes their good friend by promising them
happiness and gifts. The youth follow the newcomer and do everything
he asks them to do. Some time later their health deteriorates but they
do not have an explanation for the illness. A doctor is called to
investigate and he explains to them about the HIV/AIDS virus. The
youth understand that they, and the islanders, are in great danger and
they join hands to expel the unwanted guest from the country.
During the Street Dramas in the Gampaha District 7,000 brochures
entitled "Leave No Room for Regret, Protect Yourself" in Sinhala were
distributed. The brochures contained information on HIV/AIDS, the
impact it has on society, the difference between HIV and AIDS, how the
virus spreads and how to avoid it, the HIV test and how to live with
the disease. Over 500 bumper stickers in Sinhala and Tamil were
distributed to three wheeler taxi drivers in the three towns. The
stickers stressed on the ABC (Abstain, Be faithful, Care about your
health) of HIV/AIDS.
Brochures in Tamil were handed out to onlookers from 20 villages in
Vavuniya during their Street Drama. Posters were also affixed at key
points around the town. In Trincomalee, brochures were distributed to
Tamil, Sinhala and Muslim villages by 20 volunteers from the nearby
churches guided by a team from NCEASL's Regional Office. Brochures
were also distributed to church members.
