Psychosocial Programme held in Anuradhapura

On the 3rd of March a special programme was organized for a community in the Tissawawe area. This village comprised Hindu & Christian Tamils. The programme was held at the Church premises. Around 60 parents, most of whom were young mothers and also a few fathers attended the awareness programme on Child Abuse. Almost all parents from the village were present for the programme.

Even though all the fathers could not attend being at work, it was heartening to note that some fathers made an effort to be at the programme. Most of the mothers who were present were nursing mothers with young children and they were distracted very often. While the programme was in progress, the parents were disturbed by their children who were also present with their parents.
After addressing the parents, another programme was held for the children on how they should protect themselves from sexual abuse.
