Pamunugama Children’s Avurudu Festival

On 3rd May, 2008 ADT organized an Avurudu Festival for the children at Pamunugama, Kapungoda. This event was conducted at the Pamunugama Sanctuary House premises and commenced at 9 am. Around 75 children participated and most of them were children who attended the English & Computer classes held by ADT.

ADT representatives had planned out various games & other activities which were conducted according to the children’s’ age groups. While most of the games were popular Avurudu events, some new games and activities too were introduced. The children took part in Kana Mutti (breaking the clay pot), placing the eye of the elephant, musical chairs, fancy dress parade, selecting the Avurudu Kumari, guessing the number of seeds inside a papaya, crying and laughing competition and finding the secret visitor etc. just to name a few.

The children had great fun as they got an opportunity to show off their talents, demonstrate their skills and get to know new friends in their neighborhood. A Reverend from the nearby Catholic Church gave away prizes to children who won games. Whilst congratulating them he also encouraged the children to attend ADT’s English and Computer classes so that they could further develop their standards.

The Avurudu festival came to a close around 2:30pm. Parents who attended this event were very happy to see their children enjoying themselves forgetting all their cares. This event helped to create awareness amongst the Pamunugama- Kapungoda communities about ADT and how through such talent building activities children are taught to take on more responsibilities in their respective communities.
