After the 2004 Tsunami, children were the worst affected, witnessing the waters sweep away their family and home. Many lost at least one parent and some were orphaned. Sadly, the majority of these children from the North and East were already psychologically affected by the war. Abuse is also a growing concern.

With a literacy rate of 96%, education is of utmost importance to Sri Lankans and every child is eager to learn as much as they can, However, poverty and war impede most children  completing their studies. Alliance Development Trust is committed to meeting the needs of all these children and providing safe havens for them away from war, poverty and pain where they will be cared for, with love, respect and dignity.
